Why Every Task Feels Critical in a Small Team

When the team is small, everybody is liable for every task because they do things in unity after making the decision together. Even if the task is small or big, it matters. Trust me when I say this that this is not just a feeling, but the reality. The actions are always magnified when you work in a small team. Why is every action important? Let’s see:

Everyone Wears Multiple Hats

When job titles are flexible, the line between “ What’s my priority” and “What’s just urgent” becomes blurry to an extent. In that moment, one might feel every task has to be given equal priority and hence, each task feels important.

Limited Redundancy: Full Ownership

Larger firms have layers of support, resources and many extra hands to work on multiple tasks but when it comes to a boutique consulting firm, there might be tasks which can be left undone as the chain of responsibility is short. Complete ownership creates trust and accountability but with that comes a lot of pressure too.

Impact is Immediate and Visible

The work that one does is always visible when working with only a few people. That work can make a whole lot of difference if done on priority and fast. But fast paced work often leads to mistakes which can lead to some visible consequences. Hence, this makes the tasks more critical.

Startup Pace:Compressed Timelines

In the world of consulting, there are always tight running timelines. Quick turnaround time gives speed and urgency to the tasks. This fast pace often makes a person forget about the priorities as every task will feel as an important one.

Everyone Cares

People always genuinely care about the work, team, clients and the results. Their investment in every task is emotional and that drives high standards and sometimes the pressure is self imposed in this situation.

Overall, the truth is that everything feels important because we care deeply about what we’re building and who we’re building it with. Now, feeling like this is not at all bad yet it can be made more sustainable by prioritising tasks strictly, building the processes soon enough and by celebrating small wins. Let’s keep building: thoughtfully, sustainably, and together.
