Breaking Generational Curses: The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything!

"The real curse is accepting the life you were handed as the only one you’re allowed to live."

I heard someone say that recently and it hit me straight in the gut. It’s really so true.

When a person wants to break the generational curse running in their family, it is not an easy task to achieve. That person in his whole life has been going through the same things in his family and when one wants to break struggles like Financial struggles, burnout cycles or anything deeper than that, it just takes a whole lot of courage and just by going through logic, one cannot get there. It is definitely a messy path and it is so very personal on many levels. Motivation also doesn’t work every time. Sometimes it is lonely and exhausting. Yet, there are some positive things that I have also learnt and going to impart it to you through this blog today.

For rewriting the story, one has to be truly delusional, unapologetic, restless and utterly confident in one’s potential.

When you come from the background where things were not handed over, where survival was the only language spoken at the table, when no one in that family made you learn about investing, negotiating or even resting when required, then one needs to break that cycle and move ahead with the above said 4 traits. Remember, playing safe all the time, won’t help you break that cycle. Let's take a look at these traits one by one:

Delusional : Because Logic Won’t Get You Out of the Life You Inherited

Choosing radical self-belief despite circumstances? Weird, isn’t it? Logical and practical thinking is far away from this right? Okay, hear me out!

If one works as per conventional methods, it is familiar but nothing new comes out of it. When one believes something that doesn’t even exist yet, it is bound to happen one day. Being delusional doesn’t mean going psychic. It means to have the kind of belief in yourself with having a sense of direction as to where you want to reach or what you want to acquire. Because if you only do what’s reasonable, you’ll only repeat what’s familiar.

Unapologetic: Because Playing Small Doesn’t Serve Anyone

Being unapologetic isn’t just about attitude. It’s a life-changing mindset that empowers your mental health, relationships, purpose, and personal growth.

Why fit in, when you were born to stand out! Ask for more. Say no to things that you used to tolerate. It is all easier said than done. But think about how light you will feel after doing all this. Correct? Many people can and will say that you have changed. And you know what, you actually have. That is the whole point. You don’t owe anyone comfort while you’re rewriting your future. No one should apologise for their dreams, boundaries, identity, success, opinions, emotions, or ambition.

Remember, being unapologetic helps you live fully and not just exist politely.

Restless: Because Good Enough Isn’t the Goal

If you are a person who wants to shift the trajectory, you will never settle for “good enough”. You will always keep on wanting more, do more and hence create more. And here comes restlessness.

Now, some people can call it greed. They can always say that you just don’t settle or are not content enough. But is it a flaw? No! That’s your compass. It is the internal knowing that you are not here to just survive but to build something that lives longer than you do. This means being uncomfortable. This also means showing up when it feels like quitting. It means you refuse to shrink even when it is easier to blend in.

Sometimes, restlessness is the first step towards growth.

Remember, “You’re not stuck, you’re in transit. And that discomfort is just growth, knocking.”

Confidence: The Kind That’s Built Before You Have Results

Many people start feeling confident when they have achieved something in life. When people start to recognize them or start talking positively about them, that’s when they realise they are someone to somebody.

But to break the cycle, one has to have confidence first. Even before having money, even before validation and most importantly even if you don’t have any support. You have to back yourself when no one else does. Having confidence is not having arrogance. It is about taking ownership. It is admitting that “I don’t know how I will figure this out but I still will”.

Remember, “Confidence in growth is the quiet belief that you are becoming, even when it’s messy, slow, or unclear”.

Overall, breaking generational curse is not just about what you do. It is about you becoming what you are willing to become. The process will surely give you a hard time, will stretch you to levels you didn’t even think about. Yet, someone has to build the bridge. Someone has to think differently and hold the line because who wants to start from zero. If you break the curse, your coming generation won't have to build anything from scratch.

And if you’re reading this, maybe that someone is you.

Let them call you crazy while you’re just busy breaking the pattern.

Note: "Your last name doesn’t define your future — your mindset does."
